Turkish van kittens are a species with special features of white body, red ears, and red tail, or a white body, colorful ears, and tail. Their origin began in the 16th century when the first Turkish cats came to Britain; they were named French cats, Russian longhairs, Turkish Angora cats.
Later on, these cats were bred with other foreign breeds of cats. Then in 1955, Sonia Halliday and Laura Lushington noted during a tour of Turkey that cats around the area of Van in Eastern Turkey had resemblance to traditional Angora type cats.
Laura brought two cats to Britain, and those cats produced the same type of cats. Then she realized that this was a normal breed and registered the breed as Turkish Van cat. In Turkey, a full white cat with odd colored or blue eyes is considered the national cat and is called Van Kedisi in the Turkish language.
Colors of Turkish Van kittens are limited to head and tail with random body spots with no lower case markings (on legs). Random spots should not retract from the patterns. It seems a color cap on the head with a white blaze between the front edges of the ears with a colored tail. Matching to the environment, these cats are longhaired, have a water resistant coat, which gets thick in winter.
In summer and spring, the long hair is shed from the body, and remains long on the tail. The rest of the body color is chalk-white. Head, ears, and tail colors may be red tabby, white, black, cream tabby, blue tabby, brown tabby, cream, tortoiseshell, blue torbie, and brown torbie. Mating of pure and patterned cats will result in 50/50 mix of white and patterned cat. Turkish Van Kittens are water lovers and good swimmers. These are large and muscular cats and feature short necks. Their shoulders are broad with the ability for one to place three fingers between the legs at the chest area.
As a pet, Turkish Van kittens are intelligent and distinctive. These are people cats and need to be with the owner all the time. These kittens behave differently from other cats. They are very playful, like to play with objects, toys, prey, balls, and feather teasers, and then sleep hard. Turkish van kittens love to play with water, and can join you in the bathtub for a dip.
These kittens can fetch in their particular style that's why many people call them dogs in cat suits, as they also have the quality of being loyal and bond with their owner. They will follow him or her wherever they go; even these kittens sense the owner’s arrival and get ready to greet her or him at the doorstep. They like to be cuddled, and when in a mood, they rub themselves with the owner’s legs.
Another beautiful character is the head butt, in this way, they say hello to their favorite person and show their love and affection. These are intelligent cats, and they can understand what is happening around them, they can even open windows and cabinet. These cats are close to other pets also. They even walk with new pets as a welcome note, but when attacked or threatened, then these kittens become assertive and can get badly hurt defending themselves. |
